I was 16 when my mom died. It was the worst thing that ever happened. It was the best thing. I dedicated my life to staying fit and healthy because of my mom's death, and this has led me to self-compassion. For years, I drank to numb the pain of the repercussions of her death. I began practicing meditation and experiencing the transformational power of loving the person I was present to. It also helped that I had great coaches and mentors along the way. Slowly, I could see that drinking was keeping me from shining my light more brightly. I quit and life has never been the same. I am a fitness professional who has been teaching the skills of self compassion while learning them since 2014. It is amazing what lessons moving, paying attention to, and learning to love our bodies has on the mind.
